Cartoon Saloon animated shorts collection with the length of approximately 90 minutes

We have screened a collection of 10 Cartoon Saloon short films, including the Oscar nominated short Late Afternoon, and the very rarely seen early works from Cartoon Saloon founders Tomm Moore, Nora Twomey and Paul Young.

'havoc in heaven'

Chinese animation film from 1963. We screened the 2012 2K restoration version.


The film was released in 1963, a classic animated feautre from Chinese animation golden age. It was produced by Shanghai Animation Film Studio, which was the monopoly of Chinese animation films in early ages. We screened 2K restoration of the film to bring a smoother experience to our audiences. The film is based on the classic ancient novel Journey to the West.

SHORTS FROM SHANGHAI ANIMATION FILM STUDIO

We showcased the well-known Chinese animated shorts from  1956 - 1988 with traditional Chinese style. 

There are 5 short films screened together with different animation styles from 1950s to 1980s, which are totally different from what we see nowdays, from cut-out stop motion, hand drawn Chinese opera style, ink painting, etc.

'have a nice
day'

Chinese animation film from 1963. We screened the 2012 2K restoration version.

Have a Nice Day is an award-winning Chinese animated dark comedy crime film, with the rating of 15. It was a controversial film that it was withdrawn from Annecy in 2017. The film premiered in the main competition and was nominated for the Golden Bears at the Berlin International Film Festival.

'kumarajiva'

Kumarajiva (344-413 AD) is a giant in the history of Chinese culture. He is a well-known thinker, Buddhist scholar, philosopher and translator. After converting contemporary cultural phenomena to modern

modeling languages, they applied this to the creation of animation works.

 

The Silk Road Walker-Kumarajiva project won the Animation Project of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Excellence Project in 2017. This project is

led by the Visual China Collaborative Innovation Center of China Academy of Art and is jointly created by the School of Film and Animation and the

Rock Painting Research Institute.
